 On September 11 a commemoration event and a benefit concert “You are not alone” were held in Saint Peter's church . The commemoration was devoted to the victims of terrorist attacks, military activities, natural hazards and other disasters, as well as to their family members.
Pastors Atis Vaickovskis, Sandis Ratnieks, Edgars Mažis and priest Andris Kravalis prayed in English, French, German and Latvian. The acts of prayer were followed by Gregorian chants performed by the vocal group “Schola Cantorum Riga”. During the commemoration the names of places and data of the major disasters in the 21st century were projected on the screen.
After the prayers a benefit concert took place to collect donations for Gaisma special boarding school. The money would grant an opportunity to the pupils with mental disorder to spend a week in the Circus School in Germany.
The concert program was performed by the gospel choir from the ELCL Youth Center, Youth and Children's Symphony Orchestra “Draugi”, Guitars ensemble of Cēsis 1. Primary school and Gaisma special boarding school pupils.
The program included: E. Morricone „Gabriel’s Oboe” from movie “The Mission”, G.F. Hendel “The arrival of the Queen Sheba” (clarinet soloists Līna Kreicberga and Andris Dziļums), J.Haydn “Kindersinfonie” 1stpart (with the participation of eight Gaisma special barding school pupils), a selection of Latvian folk songs in Aivars Krūmiņš' interpretation, H. Mancini “Moon River” arranged by Aivars Krūmiņš, D.Raksin “Laura” (saxophone solo Kristaps Lubovs), The Beatles “Lady Madonna” (Cēsu 1. elementary school guitars ensemble, conducted by Edvins Logins), T.Albinoni/ Peterson “Adagio”/ “Anytime, Anywhere” (solo Liene Mitre), A.L Weber “No Metter What” (soloists Elīna... and Kalvis Jeņčs), W. Hyuston “One Moment of Time” (solo Ieva Upīte).

The pupils of Gaisma special boarding school were preparing themselves for the concert very seriously and with great responsibility. “At the beginning of September one could observe particular activities at Gaisma school. Rehearsals were held every evening, the pupils tried hard to play instruments. Besides, teachers and pupils were involved in preparing special Thank You Gifts. Of course, the children set to this work with certain timidity and doubts: “Will I manage? Will I have enough patience? Will anybody like my handicrafts?” But their self-confidence and wish to more actively engage grew by each key pendant. Both boys and girls, adults and children participated in this work, they established several creative groups. We were very pleased to see the results – two fire-trees with c. 300 key pendants. Thus we would like to thank all our friends and supporters,” says Vita Freisberga, director of Gaisma boarding school.
Testimonial 299.03 lats were collected instead of the necessary sum 4 300 lats. Nevertheless the concert became emotional experience for the participants and the listeners among whom foreign guests could also be seen. The performers won huge applause during the concert and ovation in the end.
“September 11 is the day that makes people to slow down and listen to the world around. The said by pastors Atis Vaickovskis, Edgars Mažis, Sandis Ratnieks and priest Andris Kravalis touched both those who look at the world with young eyes and those who have great life experience behind. Their words encouraged reflection on life mission and fragility of life. It was real pleasure to see maybe yet unconscious but the deep wish for love and charity that the young people enjoyed at the performance for the circus school project of Gaisma special boarding school. I express my greatest gratitude to the fantastic and unselfish project initiator and author Alfs Trepša for the opportunity to turn our dreams into reality. I thank Edmunds Rītiņš for the successful management of this concert. May heart and mind interchange, may soul leads all your activities and love inspires for new ideas, this is my wish to Dundega Duda – Tooma, conductor of the gospel choir from the ELCL Youth Center, and its soloists, to Cēsis 1. Primary school guitars ensemble and its conductor Edvīns Logins, as well as to Aigars Dziļums and Solvita Loka, conductors of Youth and Children's Symphony Orchestra “Draugi”,” says Vita Felsberga, director of Gaisma special boarding school. “Right now we witness a “no time” period to look at each other, no time to talk to each other, to enjoy each other. But today under St. Peter's church arches we heard words coming from the very heart. The organizers and participants of the concert opened our hearts for hope, love and belief. Only together = shoulder to shoulder= we can do great things. We thank all participants - the gospel choir from the ELCL Youth Center, Gaisma special boarding school pupils, Youth and Children's Symphony Orchestra “Draugi”, Cēsis 1. Primary school guitars ensemble - for their passion and sincerity and the nice atmosphere created in St. Peter's church. Thank you for the love that came into our hearts and that won't let anybody stay alone,” told Aelita and Gita, teachers of Gaisma special boarding school.
