Prayer and concert event “You are not Alone 2011”

2011 is already the third year Riga's St. Peter's Church saw the concert and prayer event "You are not Alone" on September 11, with the intention of bringing together people from Latvia and beyond praying for mankind in the 21st century.

While living in the world with the eternal battle between good and evil and our lives continuously subjected to natural disasters, human greed and the lust for power, the faithful should stay together and pray for themselves and the whole of mankind. For common sense and the protection of God. For spiritual convalescence and self-purification. You are not alone in this world as God is present everywhere.

We can't change the world featuring violence and lies overnight, yet we can change our attitude towards other people by sharing the love God has granted to us the very moment we appeared...... This love was given to us then and He wants it to be shared with others.

The event featured two parts. The first part saw a prayer in French by Andris Kravalis (St. Teresa's congregation), in English by Edgars Mažis (Āgenskala Baptist congregation), in German by Elijs Godiņš (Rīga Dome Cathedral congregation), accompanied by Schola Cantorum Riga (conductor Guntars Prānis) performing Gregorian chants.

The second part saw a concert featuring the joint Baldone District Council & Vecumnieki Music and Art School youth choir "Draugi" (Friends) led by Solvita Loka and Aigars Dziļums, with soloists Laurie Wood and Hardijs Madzulis also presenting his own songs.

The visitors had an opportunity to donate money to the Gaisma special boarding school and receive gifts handmade by the schoolchildren especially for the event. The raised LVL 159.43 will be invested in participation at a Circus school project in Germany.

We apologise for the election agitation leaflets being distributed during the event. This was neither planned nor coordinated. The event "You are not Alone 2011" does not bear any relation to party agitation, intentions, etc.
